CHURCH HISTORY

Providence United Methodist Church has a heritage that is full and rich; a heritage to be proud of. Our church has survived many struggles and experienced many pains, but we have the assurance that these struggles and pains have only served as mortar in building a strong foundation.

Providence was organized in 1880. In 1892, the church was located on the West side of Midvalley or Pumping Station Road. The first building as wood and logs. The second building, built under the leadership of Rev. O.L. Rencher, was erected in 1972. An education annex was built in 1984 under the leadership of Rev. E.D. Brown. Financial planning was started under the leadership of Dr. D. Wayne Bass, Sr., with the sanctuary renovations being completed in 2002 under the leadership of Rev. Sue Michael. Financial planning is currently in the works for more renovations/additions.

Providence is a member of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church, Abbeville Charge. Buford Chapel and West St. Peter are the other churches of the charge.
